The Flagstaff QTH
Class 5D · Home stations, commercial power
TBARC's 2024 Field Day ran from the late Jack Lunsford's (NT7MM, SK) 5-acre property in Flagstaff. Five home stations on commercial power — ARRL Class 5D — an unusually rare configuration that only three clubs filed nationwide that year.
The story in five bullets
The 2024 Field Day in numbers
Per the ARRL: a total of 4,373 entries from all 85 ARRL/RAC sections, plus 35 entries from 20 countries outside the US and Canada. Around 32,000 participants. 1.2 million QSOs logged.
One of three clubs to run 5D nationwide
Class 5D — five home stations operating on commercial power — is a rarely-filed configuration. Most clubs running 5+ transmitters opt for Class 5A (portable on battery/generator) or 5E (home stations on emergency power). TBARC's 2024 5D filing put the club in a tiny national peer group.
AZ #6 · Top 6% of the section
Arizona had 107 Field Day entries in 2024. W7TBC landed at #6 on the section leaderboard — strong performance with the top of the column dominated by CW-heavy operations (W8TK, WA7NB at 1,000+ CW QSOs).
Where the contacts came from
The 6m/10m WSJTX station carried a huge fraction of the digital contacts. CW activity was distributed across 40m, 20m, and 15m. Phone was 20m-heavy but with usable Saturday-afternoon 15m activity too.

880 bonus points — 10 distinct claims
The 2024 bonus paper trail leaned on civic engagement — site visits from an elected official and a served agency, youth participation, social media, and W1AW + NTS message handling.
Operating location · in memoriam
The 2024 operation ran from Jack Lunsford's 5-acre property in Flagstaff, Arizona. Jack — callsign NT7MM (formerly KD7RCJ) — was a longtime TBARC member and a generous host who made the Class 5D home-station configuration possible. Jack became a Silent Key not long after Field Day 2024, and the club is grateful for the years of friendship, the use of his QTH, and the radio operating he championed.
Entry submitted by Brandon McWhorter (KN6SEU), then TBARC president. ARRL confirmation number 272yg8cz.
73, Jack. We'll work the bands in your memory.
